Overview

We are currently seeking an Editorial Assistant for the Harper Imprint. The position involves assisting two SVP/Executive Editors with daily administrative and editorial responsibilities. In this role you will work on fiction and narrative nonfiction, both literary and commercial.

Responsibilities

  • Under close supervision, works with supervisor on all stages of acquisition and publication, including acquisition forms such as P&L requests, drafting and routing contract requests, drafting fact sheet copy, and reviewing catalog and flap copy.
  • Corresponding directly with authors, agents, and staff in other departments.
  • Traffics manuscript through production, liaising with authors to meet publishing deadlines.
  • Assists supervisors in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals, drafting rejection letters, evaluating market competition and trends, and researching and developing ideas. Providing administrative support including answering phones, maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings and appointments, and maintaining editorial files.

Qualifications

  • College degree or 1+ of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Creative self-starter with a love for books

The salary for this position is $52,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
