Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join the Avon Group team! The Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to the VP, Editorial Director specializing in a wide array of commercial fiction, with a specific focus on romance, thriller, horror, and cozy fantasy.

 

This role is based in New York City and will require someone to come into the office on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities

  • Under close supervision, works with supervisor on the progress of book projects from acquisition to publication and beyond by managing schedules, maintaining records and the imprint map, and acting as the in-house liaison between Editorial, other departments, and authors.  
  • Drafts publication materials, including contract requests, compiling and updating metadata keywords into title information sheets, jacket and retailer copy, cover concepting memos, and manuscript transmittals.
  • Traffics manuscript through production, liaising with authors to meet publishing deadlines.
  • Assists supervisors in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals, drafting rejection letters, evaluating market competition and trends, and researching and developing ideas.
  • Provides administrative support by scheduling, requesting ISBNs, managing mailings, alerting authors of price promotions, etc.

Qualifications

  • College degree or 1+ year of relevant work experience
  • Genuine interest in commercial fiction, especially adult genre fiction
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and social media platforms

The salary for this position is $52,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
