We also publish proprietary titles, such as Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes and the Horrors of Dating adult coloring book.

 

Harper Celebrate seeks a Senior Publicity Manager to create, lead, and execute strategies for our pipeline of daily readers, cookbooks, lifestyle titles, and illustrated and photographic nonfiction books (around 15 titles per year and growing). This position will also be in charge of publicity for the Jesus Calling devotional brand, which has sold more than 46 million copies to date, across both faith-based and secular media.

 

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of media outlets, including less traditional avenues, such as podcasts, YouTube shows, Substack, influencer engagement, etc.  They will be creative - able to adapt and change pitch strategies quickly to ensure maximal media coverage.  They will also understand the deep value of cultivating relationships both internally and externally.

 

Experience working with author-driven lifestyle, cookbooks, and self-help books is strongly preferred. Please consider including in your cover letter examples of key projects and authors you have personally managed that include the types of books listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Develop individual, targeted publicity campaigns for assigned titles, including specific key focus titles during each fiscal year.
  • Write pitches, press materials, Q&As, and secure media coverage (long and short-lead) across multiple platforms - including cover reveals, interviews, reviews, round-ups, and award submissions.
  • Report weekly on individual title PR successes via Marketing and Publicity updates (MPUs) using industry metrics such as Ad Value Equivalency, Reach, Circulation, and platform followers/subscribers.
  • Actively develop and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, and local.
  • Create a robust strategy for gift guide and feature coverage.
  • Coordinate and manage logistics for both virtual and in-person national multi-city book tours at bookstores, festivals, event venues, and libraries.
  • Manage the publicity budget for assigned titles and coordinate the activities of other personnel involved in each project.
  • Research, negotiate with, and manage outside publicity firms as needed for certain projects.
  • Coach and prep authors for media opportunities.
  • Collaborate and initiate opportunities for the Harper Celebrate imprint and also for the Jesus Calling brand in trade outlets, such as sales milestones, publishing initiatives, etc.
  • Present publicity strategy regularly during sales conference, acquisitions meetings, internal publishing meetings, etc.

Qualifications

Knowledge: Familiarity with MuckRack, NetGalley, and PodChaser a plus.

 

Work Experience: 5+ years working in public relations and/or transferrable work experience such as corporate communications.; 4-color book experience (including cookbooks) strongly preferred. Experience working with authors or high-profile personalities.

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field.

 

Industry Knowledge: Understanding of book publishing landscape, as well as, established media and independent bookstore contacts is a plus.

  • Work independently and multi-task across a high-volume pipeline of projects with an ability to prioritize effectively and keep deadlines.
  • Collaborate with authors and agents diplomatically.
  • Maintain flexibility, with the ability to make adjustments as needed to suit the team’s defined goals.
  • Communicate well, ask thoughtful questions, and generate efficient solutions.

 

The salary range for this position is $83,000 – $95,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.  As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates.  The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
