Overview

Avon is currently seeking a Developmental Editor to develop commercial ideas and edit manuscripts for the Avon A imprint.  For this role, the emphasis is on developing original content and editing manuscripts rather than seeking agent submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, edits, and develops commercial projects for the Avon A imprint.
  • Brainstorms ideas for new projects and reaches out to authors to write them.
  • Negotiates contracts.
  • Contributes to and participates in short and long term development and growth of the
    publishing program.
  • Manages and coordinates editorial production and publication schedules.
  • Oversees fact sheet, jacket and catalog copy; reviews marketing and publicity materials.
  • Conducts and analyzes sales research.
  • Develops and maintains strong and extensive agent and author relationships.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-6 years of relevant editorial or comparable industry experience.
  • Established agency contacts
  • Strong, succinct presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$80,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
