Overview

HarperCollins has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned production professional with previous 4-color children’s book publishing experience. The professional in this role will produce frontlist children’s and adult titles in all formats including board books, picture books, cookbook and coloring books. This position will be responsible for working with two publishing teams, one in Nashville and the other in New York City, Must thrive in a team environment where quality, communication, budget and schedules are paramount.

 

Note: This position is located in our Princeton, NJ facility. Opportunity for occasional travel to Nashville, TN and New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the production of children’s titles for HarperCollins Christian Publishing division along with titles for Cider Mill and Applesauce imprints.
  • Develops new processes and procedures with other departments to improve day-to-day operations
  • Supervises all phases of production between internal departments and outside vendors
  • Works with vendors to maintain schedules, quality and pricing targets
  • Issue Purchase Orders for first prints inclusive but not limited to printing, binding, components, separations, sales material and ebooks
  • Research and Develops and prices special effects used on components for maximum effect in the most fiscally responsible manner
  • Estimates titles for acquisition, spec approval and final pricing.
  • Triages technical, procedural and quality issues with staff
  • Reviews proofs and printed materials for color correctness
  • Maintains and oversees compliance to safety testing program
  • Handles special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • 5 years book production and offset printing experience
  • Proven success in the production field
  • Expert-level understanding of printing, binding, finishing, and prepress/premedia services for offset printing
  • Experience producing color critical, high-end materials with supervised on-press experience
  • Ability to interpret color and provide color correction markups
  • Understanding of industry vendors and their capabilities, including both domestic and overseas vendors in Europe and Asia
  • Sourcing experience and vendor contacts essential in both US and overseas.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in digital asset management
  • Thorough, accurate and articulate verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to think and react gracefully in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Candidate must be willing to travel occasionally to Nashville, TN and New York City

The salary range for this position is $75,000-$80,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
