Overview

The most respected and storied imprint in publishing dedicated to the Black diaspora, Amistad was founded 39 years ago to specialize in the works of authors who honor and consecrate the memory of those who fought-and continue to fight-for freedom.

 

We are seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented intern for our editorial team. Projects may include reading submissions, taking editorial meeting notes, sending agendas, updating digital trackers, creating contact lists, blurb mailings, and more. The ideal candidate is curious to learn and will be an active participant in various aspects of book creation. The candidate must be well read and able to work independently and with others.

Responsibilities

  • Learn editorial workflow, administrative tasks, and other departmental functions 
  • Coordinate editorial mailings for blurb requests to authors and influencers 
  • Assist with submission readings.
  • Brainstorm and build contact lists and digital trackers.

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2026 or 2027 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience. 
  • Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 8 to August 13, 2026, at our New York City office. This internship is compensated at a rate of $18 per hour.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
