Overview

HarperCollins Children’s Books is currently seeking a Senior Director, Marketing to manage the teen marketing team, work directly on title-specific marketing campaigns, and participate in overall list strategy and acquisitions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the marketing team responsible for HarperCollins Children’s Books’ teen list, managing and mentoring four marketers
  • Lead marketing strategy for teen category, including high-profile frontlist and backlist YA titles from award-winning, bestselling and celebrity authors
  • Conceive, develop, and execute a significant number of key marketing campaigns, from strategy to performance analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with editorial, publicity, sales, design, adult crossover, and digital teams to align marketing strategies and ensure successful execution.
  • Develop content for campaigns that includes, but is not limited to, sell sheets for reps and accounts, social media post copy and images, infographics, and email copy for consumer facing promotions.
  • Work closely with the HarperCollins sales team to provide support in the form of materials, ideas, communication about developments with our books, retail opportunities, and more.
  • Communicate detailed campaign updates, strategic plans and performance analytics directly to editors, publicists, publishers, sales teams, agents, and authors. Present campaigns formally in key meetings.
  • Oversee and manage marketing budgets for specific titles and Epic Reads overhead
  • Oversee brand strategy for Epic Reads, a leading online digital platform, including partnering with digital marketing, consumer insights, and ecommerce teams on brand initiatives and content strategy. Develop and expand brand activations and partnerships across retail, trade and consumer events, and strategic partnerships to drive growth and audience development. Ensure consistency with brand guidelines and cohesion with other brand channels
  • Participate in planning and preparation for all seasonal sales meetings, regular marketing and advertising meetings, and publishing operations meetings.
  • Serve as an imprint marketing liaison, working closely with publisher on imprint strategy and marketing
  • Lead efforts on teen/adult crossover marketing with partners on adult marketing team
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing and improving campaigns—new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of title marketing experience- with increasing levels of responsibility for title marketing and people management
  • Experience creating compelling marketing campaigns and working with authors as well as their external teams
  • Excellent leadership skills, project management, communication, budget management, organizational, prioritization and presentation skills a must
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across the division and within the company and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • A positive, can-do attitude plus possesses the ability to work well with different types of personalities
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of teen book marketing landscape
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media and metadata best practices and how they apply to books as a marketing and sales tool
  • MS Office Suite required
  • Passion for the book publishing business
  • College degree or equivalent work experience

The salary range for this position is $135,000-$155,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
