The Fiction team for HarperCollins Christian Publishing and HarperCollins Focus prides itself on strong author relationships, award-winning content, bestselling books, and a cohesive team environment and is currently seeking a Marketing Manager. The team manages adult fiction titles under Thomas Nelson Fiction and Harper Muse and publishes both Christian and general-market novels by bestselling authors such as Charles Martin, Colleen Coble, Courtney Walsh, Melissa Ferguson, Katherine Reay, Marie Bostwick, and many others.

 

Between the two imprints, we release approximately 45 new frontlist titles per year and continually market a variety of previously released titles – allowing ample opportunity for creativity and variety – in a fun and dynamic workplace.

 

The Marketing Manager provides marketing, email, organic social, digital, and content support for the Fiction marketing team and roster of authors.

 

This is a hybrid position based out of our Nashville office.

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee the execution of consumer and industry emails, create content calendar to map out emails to ensure all title releases, deals, giveaways, etc. are promoted in emails
    • Monitor and track email success (e.g. open rates, click-through rates, etc.) and focus on growing our email lists
  • Continue to develop and expand the online presence of our brands by overseeing the functionality of our websites, perform basic website and content updates, work with IT and/or developers if major updates are needed, and create landing pages for each book (websites are on WordPress)
  • Create content for and manage organic social media, including performing community management (monitor and respond to comments), as well as posting on brand social accounts and managing social media messages
  • Partner with the publicity team to identify and work with influencers to assist in marketing books, and work with the paid ad manager regarding any influencer needs related to paid ads
  • Grow our virtual book review community, manage engagement on Goodreads, NetGalley, and other online book-related platforms, as well as online author groups, and assist with book clubs and reader subscription groups
  • Create and submit promotional recommendations and materials to other internal teams, such as sales and corporate communications
  • Stay on top of digital, consumer, publishing, and retail trends that can improve our marketing performance and conversion
  • Not required, but ideal: Possessing design abilities to create promotional kits for books as well as promotional graphics, marketing materials for tours, and promotional videos
  • Work with team members, sales, and authors to organize 2-3 author events and conferences (in-person and/or virtual) annually
  • Monitor performance of marketing activities to ensure KPIs are achieved, and assist the marketing team as needed
  • Perform other support functions of the department as needed, such as monitoring department email inboxes, help with mailings, assist with creating sales materials, etc.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Work Experience: 4 or more years of marketing experience.

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related discipline preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Industry Knowledge: Interest in and basic understanding of adult fiction and book publishing preferred but not required.

 

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with creating content for and managing organic social media on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest
  • Experience with email marketing and acquisition
  • Experience managing Word Press websites, and working with tech teams for major website updates
  • Proficiency with Canva, Photoshop, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite applications (preferred)
  • Must be able to work independently to prioritize projects and problem solve
  • Strong communication skills to articulate needs, provide projects updates, and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues and vendors
  • Success in working cross-functionally with various team members throughout a collaborative organization and having a willingness to help
