Overview

The William Morrow Group, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is seeking a creative and motivated Associate Director or Director of Marketing. The Morrow Group is comprised of several imprints – flagship imprint William Morrow, as well as Dey Street, Mariner, Harvest, Voyager and Avon – and publishes a range of titles across most publishing categories. This position will oversee marketing strategy for the Harvest and Harper Wave imprints, specializing in cookbooks, lifestyle, wellness and prescriptive nonfiction, while working on select titles across other Morrow imprints.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conceives, develops, and executes 6-8 marketing campaigns per season, in close collaboration with authors and internal team.
  • Communicates detailed campaign updates directly to editors, publicists, publishers, sales teams, agents, and authors. Presents campaigns formally in key meetings.
  • Advises authors on building and optimizing their social media presence and overall platform. Hands-on with authors where necessary.
  • Develops a variety of content for campaigns that includes, but is not limited to, consumer-facing digital assets, promotions, and social media copy and content.
  • Participates in the planning and preparation for all seasonal sales meetings.
  • Oversees budgets for assigned titles and helps manage imprint marketing budget.
  • Secures and oversees title specific cross promotional partnerships with third party brands and companies.
  • Engages in industry and consumer-facing imprint branding efforts as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for enhancing and improving marketing tactics—new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc.
  • Works closely with the HarperCollins sales team to provide support in the form of materials, ideas, communication about developments with our books, retail opportunities, and more.

Qualifications

  • At least 7-10 years of hands-on book marketing or relevant product marketing experience - with increasing levels of responsibility for people management
  • Experience creating compelling campaigns for nonfiction titles for high profile authors and brands
  • Excellent leadership skills, project management, communication, budget management, organizational, prioritization and presentation skills and a high level of professionalism a must
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across the division and within the company and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • A positive, can-do attitude plus the ability to work well with different types of personalities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing trends and tactics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media and metadata best practices and how they apply to books as a marketing and sales tool
  • MS Office Suite required; Adobe Creative Suite is a bonus
  • Passion for the book publishing business
  • College degree or equivalent work experience

The salary for this position is $90,000-$125,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
