HarperChristian Resources (HCR) is looking for an Associate Acquisitions Editor to join our dynamic team. HCR creates original Bible study content and Bible study resources based on book content published by Thomas Nelson and Zondervan, as well as other Christian trade book publishers. We publish video Bible studies, Bible study guides, small group study guides, ministry programs, and church campaigns in both print and digital formats.


The Associate Acquisitions Editor will assist the HCR Acquisition Editors (AE’s) in overseeing and managing new titles from Pub Board acceptance through editorial process management to printer-ready files. In addition, this key role will have the opportunity to help acquire strategic author and ministry partner Bible study content. The Associate Acquisitions Editor will interface with the HCR editorial, marketing, and creative team members as well as shared service areas of the company to support best tools, processes, and practices. The role will also assist the VP/Publisher as needed.


  • Assist AE’s in developing Publishing Announcement forms, financial product details, and contract forms
  • Assist AE’s to do editorial work on select titles including Study Guide conversions to include streaming video
  • Work with AE’s in creating more proprietary content from backlist content
  • Assist AE’s in creating more workbooks to accompany Trade books
  • Assist AE’s with copyediting and proofreading needs. In partnership with the AE, offer feedback and suggestions to the author with the goal of improving the work.
  • Opportunity to research, evaluate, and developmentally edit select new titles and authors —consistent with a multi-faceted publishing strategy and financial goals
  • Maintain existing author relationships and grow new author, agent, and corporate relationships.
  • Leverage market research, social media, retailer insights, and other data to find relevant felt needs, competitive analysis, topics, and authors that can excel in the marketplace.
  • Write helpful proposals and presentations to pitch to internal and external partners to gain support for the vision for the project.
  • Participate in creative development of titles, descriptive copy, metadata to optimize search engine discovery, and covers for books acquired.



  • Expertise in Chicago Manual of Style and/or Christian Writers Manual of Style.
  • A strong grasp of proper English, grammar, and an eagle-eye for errors.
  • Editing experience, including substantive editing, editorial project management, and speaking into aesthetics and design
  • Personal experience in leading or participating in a small group and/or Bible study, preferred.
  • Good understanding of the Bible and Christian doctrine, preferred.
  • Be well versed and engaged in social media, including emerging trends and voices in areas like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Meta, and more as it relates to authors to acquire.
  • Understanding the role of the church and ministry for publishing Bible study resources, preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum 3-years’ editorial experience or other relevant publishing experience, required.  Acquisitions or agenting experience preferred. 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Journalism, Publishing, or equivalent degree required.


Industry Knowledge: General knowledge of the book creation process, helpful. Working knowledge of the Christian publishing industry and marketplace, strongly preferred.

The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.  As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates.  The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
