HarperCollins Publishers is seeking an experienced Data professional to join our centralized Data Engineering Team, which encompasses an enterprise-wide scope in terms of managing, surfacing and controlling corporate data assets and providing technical support for data structure, data automation and data analytics.

The Data Engineering Manager, is a flexible, adaptable, problem solver with technical expertise, analytics skills, and product sense to successfully pivot/context-switch amongst many projects with a variety of scale and complexity. With your breadth of knowledge, in this role you are often sought after for guidance and mentorship.

The Data Engineering Manager will:

• Manage a team of software and data engineers who will build data pipeline frameworks to automate high-volume and real-time data delivery from the vendor and retailer
• Possess the ability to transform complex analytical models in scalable, production-ready solutions
• Integrate our cloud production environments with in-house applications using a modern technology stack
• Work directly with product owners and customers to deliver data products in a collaborative and agile environment

• Leading and developing sustainable data driven solutions with current new generation data technologies to drive our business and technology strategies
• Designing robust systems with an eye on the long-term maintenance and support of the application
• Leveraging reusable code modules to solve problems across the team and organization
• Handling multiple functions and roles for the projects and Agile teams
• Managing and mentoring a team of data engineers (both full-time associates and/or third-party resources)
• Providing business, application and technology consulting in feasibility discussions with technology team members and business partners
• Defining, executing and continuously improving our internal software architecture processes

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• Must have 4+ years' experience in SQL, BigQuery, API or Python based software application development.
• 3+ years' people management experience.
• 3+ years'  experience with Agile and real-time data.
• Experience with Cloud platform (AWS, Google, Azure).

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience with Data Engineering concepts and building and maintaining Big Data applications using open source software like Spark or Hadoop.
• 4+ years' experience with Software Engineering experience.
• Experience in Test Driven Development and tools like Cucumber.
• Experience in Object-Oriented and Functional programming using languages like Python and Java.
• Experience with developing and deploying applications on Cloud, preferably on Google cloud.
• Experience designing, developing, and implementing APIs.
