The William Morrow Group, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is seeking an Assistant Publicist! The Morrow Group is comprised of several imprints – flagship imprint William Morrow, as well as Dey Street Books, Mariner Books, Morrow Lifestyle, and Avon Books – and publishes a range of titles across most publishing categories.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with writing press releases, pitches letters and other promotional materials relating to book tours.
  • Helps reach out to targeted press and track responses.
  • Assists with coordinating book events and book signings for authors.
  • Orchestrates publicity mailings for major book campaigns.
  • Organizes author schedules; books travel for authors on tour; maintains a book campaign budget, and processes invoices.
  • Handles publicity campaigns for their own projects, including writing press releases, pitching media, and booking author events.
  • Researches and maintains media contact lists and database and maintains files pertaining to authors, book tours, etc.
  • Shares department assistant duties such as trade submissions, monthly roundups, and sending book requests.
  • Escorts authors on tour and to media and bookstore appearances in and around New York City.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Prior internship experience in publishing or publicity required
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced/high pressure environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to handle information confidentially
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; social media knowledge a plus
  • Able to travel to author events and media interviews in NYC

This role is currently based out of New York, New York. You will need to commute to the office when it reopens.
