HarperCollins is currently seeking a Junior Financial Analyst for the General Books finance department. Through analysis and reporting, this team provides support to all departments in the adult trade division, enabling them to make well informed business decisions. Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly financial closings, including the completion of detailed analysis of sales, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses.
  • Develop and maintain business models to support internal decision-making processes.
  • Serve as first point of financial contact for employees, especially entry-level and mid-level editorial and marketing employees, to answer questions, provide explanations, and investigate problems as needed.
  • Maintain Excel P&L template used by editors to generate title P&Ls for acquisition, assist editorial staff in preparing and understanding P&Ls, and review P&Ls before acquisitions meetings.
  • Assist with the Anaplan forecasting system.
  • Research and analyze title financial information.
  • Responsible for performing special projects on an ad hoc basis.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience required
  • College degree in business administration, finance, economics, accounting, or computer science
  • Ability to think critically and analytically
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Detail oriented and has exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong PC Skills: Excel a MUST; knowledge of Access a plus
  • JDE Edwards, Oracle/Hyperion EPM, Anaplan experience a plus
  • Interest in publishing or media a plus
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, written and interpersonal skills

This role is currently based out of New York, New York. You will need to commute to the office when it reopens.
