Marketing Manager – Fiction and Non-Fiction

The Mariner Books Marketing department is seeking a Marketing Manager to manage title marketing campaigns for ~45 books per year, with the goal of creating awareness, developing reader relationships, and driving book sales. This role will be responsible for planning and executing results-oriented marketing and advertising campaigns for a broad range of genres including fiction and non-fiction, from literary fiction and science fiction/fantasy to social justice, memoir, and big idea books. The Marketing Manager will report to the Associate Marketing Director.

  • Work collaboratively with authors and in-house publicity, editorial, and sales teams to develop and execute book marketing plans for ~45 titles per year.
  • Use consumer insights tools to identify target audiences for each book and plan data-driven advertising to reach those audiences.
  • Write creative and effective copy for print and digital advertising campaigns; maintain existing relationships with ad reps and brainstorm new opportunities and venues.
  • Collaborate with creative services team and freelance photographers to manage creation of ads, graphics, and other assets.
  • Strategize social media content for each book, including creating content plans for authors’ platforms, guiding authors on their platforms, and developing content for the social media team.
  • Plan and execute mailings and emails to booksellers, librarians, other organizations, bookstagrammers, and other influencers.
  • Create and update title marketing records, catalog marketing bullets, marketing update docs.
  • Communicate marketing plans and developments with key stakeholders, including authors, agents, and in-house teams.
  • Present marketing plans at key divisional meetings, including weekly Sales & Marketing meetings, Pre-Sales, and Sales Conference.


  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 4+ years marketing or publishing experience
  • Strong knowledge of social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest)
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and organization
  • Interest in trends in books, publishing, media, marketing, social media, and/or sales
