We have an exciting opportunity for a Designer to join our Ecco imprint.

 

Ecco was founded as an independent press in 1971, and has been part of HarperCollins since 1999. Ecco publishes about 75 books a year, from literary fiction and general nonfiction to poetry, cookbooks, and literature in translation, by authors including Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and National Book Award recipients.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Senior Art Director to concept and create jackets and covers for hardcover and paperback books.
  • Attends cover meetings and presents covers for approval.
  • Prepares jacket and cover mechanicals for in-house routing, then manages them through production and archiving processes.
  • Assists with jacket reprint corrections.
  • Assists with interdepartmental requests.
  • Handles multiple projects while maintaining publication schedules and keeping manager informed of progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of design experience
  • Book cover design experience, or related field (fluent in using typography, imagery, and color to convey ideas) 
  • Strong Mac skills in InDesign and Photoshop 
  • Drawing and hand-lettering skills a plus
  • Love of reading, with a willingness to work on a variety of books
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills  
  • Must be creative, adaptable, and have a strong work ethic
  • Ability to prioritize and perform under pressure 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting 
  • College degree or equivalent work experience
