HarperCollins is currently seeking a Junior Financial Analyst for the children's division finance department.  Through analysis and reporting, this team provides support to all departments in the children’s division, enabling them to make well informed business decisions.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who seeks challenges, takes initiative, and is strongly motivated to continuously learn and make valuable contributions to a finance team within a well-established company. 

Responsibilities

  • Assists with monthly financial closings, including the completion of detailed analysis of sales, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses.
  • Develops and maintains business models to support internal decision-making processes.
  • Serves as first point of financial contact for employees, especially entry-level and mid-level editorial and marketing employees, to answer questions, provide explanations, and investigate problems as needed.
  • Maintains Excel P&L template used by editors to generate title P&Ls for acquisition, assist editorial staff in preparing and understanding P&Ls, and review P&Ls before acquisitions meetings.
  • Researches and analyzes title financial information.
  • Performs special projects on an ad hoc basis.   

Qualifications

  • College degree in business administration, finance, economics, accounting, or computer science required
  • Ability to think critically and analytically
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Detail oriented
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong PC Skills: Excel a MUST; knowledge of Access a plus
  • JDE Edwards, Oracle/Hyperion EPM experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Hyperion Applications (Planning, Smartview, Reporting, HFM)
  • Interest in publishing or media a plus
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, written and interpersonal skills
