    We are currently seeking a summer intern to work on the Strategy and Innovation team! Strategy and Innovation focuses on the growth and future of HarperCollins. We handle a variety of ongoing work and large-scope projects – so no day is ever the same! We are looking at the future of reading, how to sell stories to the customers of tomorrow, how to get our authors’ stories into the hands of more people, what innovations will impact the book industry, and so much more. It’s an exciting set of questions and the team works with all parts of the business and across all HC global offices to find these answers!

     

    The HarperCollins Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week program which runs from June 1 through August 7.  All interns work Monday through Thursday, for a total of 28 hours per week.  As a HarperCollins intern, you will learn about the entire publishing process - following one book from beginning to end while hearing from the people who worked on it in our weekly lunch and learn series (lunch is provided!). You will work on a publishing project throughout the summer with your fellow interns and have the opportunity to present your findings to senior staff.  There are plenty of opportunities to network including an icebreaker bowling trip, and the end of the program culminates with a presentation called “How to Get a Job in Publishing” – offering advice on your resume, cover letter, interview, and networking.

    Responsibilities

    • Works with the Senior Director of Corporate Strategy and Innovation on growing an exciting new direct-to-consumer business.
    • Conducts market research on trends and companies.
    • Puts together a report on top technology and consumer trends impacting the publishing business.
    • Assists with ad hoc strategy and innovation projects – either independent or supporting – with potential to also support consumer insight and digital business development teams as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Must be avaialble to start working in a full-time capacity in 2020/2021
    • Ability to use PowerPoint well, Excel proficiency (though not analyst level required), Word proficiency
    • Ability to gather lots of information and consolidate it into Exec-level communication
    • Ability to remain organized among multiple timelines and projects
    • Ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
    • A genuine interest in both books and business problems – particularly around innovation and the health of the industry
