    Our ideal candidate for Publicity Manager is a creative persistent individual who enjoys crafting unique pitches and angles to secure media across all platforms (print, digital, television, radio, etc).  This individual needs to be well-organized, driven by high standards, and someone who excels in a fast-paced environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop individual, targeted publicity campaigns for each assigned title and set measurable goals for success.
    • Ability to craft publicity pitches and angles for both author-driven titles, but also proprietary topic-based books.
    • Write press releases and creative pitch letters for each campaign.
    • Pitch and book media coverage for author/titles to print, radio, online/digital, podcasts and TV outlets.
    • Leverage social media to create awareness and buzz around book releases, both with major traditional media outlets and bloggers.
    • Actively develop and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, and local.
    • Communicate PR wins to marketing and sales team internally.
    • Attend editorial and sales pub board and key sales meetings as needed.
    • Continuously research new trends in publicity and children’s arenas.
    • Represent Tommy Nelson at key industry events, conferences, media pitching trips, author media appearances and/or book signings.
    • Organize and complete all press mailings.
    • Schedule and attend author media tours.
    • Manage the publicity budget for assigned titles.
    • Research, negotiate with, and manage outside publicity firms as needed for certain projects.
    • Identify news/opportunities into which our authors/books may be inserted and thus exposed to consumers via various media outlets and crafts pitches appropriate for each outlet.

     

    Qualifications

    Knowledge:

    Knowledge of media contact and engagement platforms such as Cision required; track record of mass media and digital media successes; Knowledge of Christian market is a plus.

     

    Work Experience: 5+ years working in public relations, preferably in the book publishing or children’s/family entertainment spaces.

     

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, or Journalism

     

    Industry Knowledge: Keen understanding of publicity and its function is required. Established media contacts in children’s and general market media arenas preferred.

     

    Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized, ability to think creatively and strategically. Strong project management skills. Proficiency in making presentations to small and large groups. Ability to write strong/winning media pitches. Ability to work within a highly collaborative team environment is essential. Budget skills. Willing to travel.
