    Responsibilities

    Essential Responsibilities: The Nelson Books intern will be responsible for assisting the editorial team and will gain a broad overview of the publishing process.

     

    The intern will:

    • Acquire working knowledge of standard proofreading marks and The Chicago Manual of Style by assisting with page proofs
    • Become familiar with how we work with freelancers
    • Learn how to apply our evaluation process to new book proposals
    • Participate in ed boards, pub boards, titling and production meetings
    • Acquire working knowledge of HCML and its basic application
    • Learn the process from acquired manuscript to book in hand
    • Gain experience in writing catalog and back-cover copy
    • Some clerical work (photocopying, binding, filing, email, note taking, and data entry)
    • Interview people serving in a wide variety of positions in our company

    Qualifications

    Required Status:  Must be a Fall 2020 College Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student

     

    Skills:

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

    Industry Knowledge: Candidates should have a passionate interest in the publishing industry, with a specific passion for nonfiction preferred. General understanding of the Christian market is a plus, but not required.
