  • Overview

    HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a full-time, English/Spanish, Bilingual Senior Associate, Editorial Services in either our Princeton, NJ, New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA, office. This is primarily a proofreading position in an Editorial Services group that provides proofreading, corrections-entering and other content-specific services to managing and production editorial teams in several locations. Candidates must work in our offices; this is not a remote position. Candidates who have an ability to flex their hours should note so in their cover letter.


    • Proofread HarperCollins  books across a variety of imprints and genres (list includes literary and commercial fiction, serious nonfiction, celebrity memoirs, business titles, and lifestyle books in English and Spanish), including marking for errors (grammar, spelling and punctuation), queries and page makeup issues
    • Use a structured proofreading process to ensure error-free copy
    • Learn HarperCollins-specific systems/processes/standards for proofreading

    Additional Responsibilities May Include:

    • Enter corrections specified by production editorial team into manuscripts (Microsoft Word format)
    • Apply structuring/styling to accommodate changes to manuscript content
    • Provide QA checks of ePublications


      • Fluent in both English and Spanish written and spoken communications
      • Excellent (native level) knowledge of English and Spanish languages including spelling, grammar, punctuation and nuance.
      • Professional proofreading experience with Spanish and English language books, preferably in trade book publishing, including side-by-side comparison proofreading, slugs, and cold (“as is”) reads.
      • 6-10+ years of experience in proofreading
      • Ability to query decisively and effectively
      • Ability to work under tight deadlines
    • Excellent working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, as well as the Real Academia Española’s Diccionario de la lengua española and Libro de estilo de la lengua española


    Additional Requirements:

    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word
    • Fast learner, willingness to take on new responsibilities as skill set grows
    • Ability to communicate, interact with, and deliver on multiple priorities in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with cross-functional teams 
    • Experience working with works translated into Spanish is preferred
