    Essential Responsibilities: The fiction editorial intern will be responsible for assisting the editorial team and will gain a broad overview of the publishing process.

    • Attend team meetings, including but not limited to acquisitions, titling, staff, pub boards, production, packaging, editorial, marketing, and sales conference
    • Review proposals and write reader reports/evaluations
    • Acquire working knowledge of standard proofreading marks and The Chicago Manual of Style by assisting with page proofs
    • Acquire working knowledge of formatting standards by reviewing final pass proofs
    • Acquire working knowledge of manuscript styling and basic application
    • Review work orders for e-book-only products
    • Gain experience in drafting/reviewing catalog and back cover copy
    • Acquire working knowledge of data optimization and help in optimizing retailer copy for backlist and frontlist titles
    • Shadow editors in reviewing substantive edits
    • Some clerical work (e.g. photocopying, printing and binding manuscripts, filing, email, note taking, etc)


    Required Status:  Must be a Fall 2020 College Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student


    Education: English or journalism majors preferred


    Industry Knowledge: Candidates should have a passionate interest in the publishing industry, with a specific passion for fiction preferred. General understanding of the Christian market is a plus, but not required. 



    • Strong desire to learn along with a professional drive
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Research skills
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with good use of tact and diplomacy
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong knowledge of English grammar and usage                  
    • Team player
