    Available to local college juniors or seniors interested in the publishing industry, the Zondervan editorial internship offers students an introduction to publishing that is both broad in scope and deeply focused on preparing them for a career as an editor. The internship will introduce students to the various career paths available in publishing and provide hands-on experience proofreading, editing, and evaluating manuscripts.


    Essential Responsibilities: The Zondervan editorial intern will be responsible for assisting the editorial team and will gain a broad overview of the publishing process.


    The intern will:

    • Work on nonfiction, reflective, and academic titles
    • Acquire working knowledge of standard proofreading marks
    • Become familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style, The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style, and The SBL Handbook of Style
    • Learn and practice the various kinds of editorial work, including
      • Proofreading
      • Copyediting
      • Substantive editing
      • Macro editing
      • Format proofreading
    • Review proposal submissions
    • Participate in publishing meetings, such as pub boards, production editor meetings, dream it meetings, cover design, and production rounds
    • Acquire working knowledge of manuscript coding and styling
    • Minimal clerical work (e.g., photocopying, binding, filing, email, note taking, and data entry)


    Required Status: Fall 2020 Junior, Senior or Graduate Student.


    Skills Required:

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Research skills
    • Formal education in English, Journalism, Literature, or a related field
    • Editing/proofreading experience preferred

    Industry Knowledge: Candidates should have a passionate interest in the publishing industry. General understanding of the Christian market is a plus, but not required.
