    The Editorial Operations Intern will be responsible for assisting the Senior Managing Editor and Editorial Coordinator for the Zondervan Reflective, Zondervan Academic, Thomas Nelson Study Resources team and will gain a broad overview of the publishing process, product development, data integrity, and project management. This internship will provide a solid foundation for an entry-level editorial position in publishing.

     

    Responsibilities

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Acquire working knowledge of the publishing process and best practices
    • Acquire working knowledge of standard proofreading marks and The Chicago Manual of Style by assisting with format proof readings
    • Acquire working knowledge of the ONIX data feed and how our product information is communicated to retailers
    • Acquire working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Project Web App for scheduling
    • Attend sales pub boards and learn about the acquisitions process
    • Participate in acquisitions and titling meetings
    • Participate in scheduling second alignment and creative strategy meetings
    • Assist with editorial freelance assignments
    • Assist with title setups and data integrity checks
    • Participate in making reprint corrections
    • Assist with preparing files for digital printing
    • Some clerical work (e.g. photocopying, filing, email, note taking, etc.)

    Qualifications

    Required Status: Fall 2020 Junior, Senior or Graduate Student.

     

    Knowledge

    • Above average knowledge of English grammar

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)

     

    Education: College level Junior or Senior majoring in English, Communications, or related area preferred

     

    Skills:

     

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proven spelling and proofreading skills
    • Project management and organizational skills
    • Ability to quickly learn and utilize electronic databases
