    The Zonderkidz team is in search of an editor who will be responsible for acquisition, editorial, and product development of children’s and teen products (e.g. picture books, juvenile fiction, YA nonfiction, etc.). This individual will work with the publisher to strategize and manage title plans for product categories to ensure the publishing group produces the budgeted amount of product to meet annual fiscal goals. We work with a broad range of authors including Rick Warren, Sally Lloyd-Jones, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chrystal Evans Hurst, Linsey Davis, Jess Connolly, and many other leading communicators.


    • Maintain a consistent and multi-faceted publishing pipeline, in accordance with the Publisher and publishing team strategy and philosophy.
    • Proactively participate in regular editorial meetings and pub boards.
    • Identify market trends and felt needs of readers.
    • Actively acquire new titles and authors—consistent with publishing strategy and financial goals.
    • Maintain and strengthen trust in author relationships.
    • Provide timely communication with current and potential authors and their agents regarding the status of their proposals and/or future projects and backlist titles.
    • Negotiate with publisher to determine financial benchmarks for each product.
    • Present titles at sales conference.
    • Participate in creative development of titles, descriptive copy, and covers for books acquired.



    Knowledge: Ability to accurately, efficiently, and economically perform the above duties, producing quality books that reflect editorial excellence and support the HCCP mission statement.


    Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years editorial experience with at least 3 years of acquisitions and macro editing experience. 


    Education: Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Journalism, Publishing, or equivalent degree required


    Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the trade book market, leading authors and publishers is required. Experience creating children’s and teen nonfiction books, preferred.
