  • Overview

    We are seeking a creative and motivated Designer to join the HarperCollins Center of Excellence team in the Princeton, NJ office. In this role, the Designer will be responsible for composing covers, jackets, and audio packaging as well as creating templated interiors for fiction, non-fiction, and illustrated titles in both English and Spanish languages. This is a great opportunity to learn about books while working with and supporting the Art Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Work collaboratively with members of the Design, Editorial, and Production teams.
    • Execute mechanicals of covers and jackets for approximately 25 to 50 titles a year.
    • Choose and apply existing interior design templates.
    • Create final files for inserts, printed endsheets, and other ancillary book components and editions.
    • Preflight and release cover/jacket and interior files to the printer.
    • Organize art to transmit to production.
    • Color correct with production and editorial teams and attend press oks when possible.
    • Approve printed samples to make sure they meet quality standards.
    • Keep projects on a timely schedule and keep supervisor in the loop on projects.
    • Archive all projects on time and be aware of production status.
    • Provide design support to supervisors, as needed.
    • Provide general assistance on special projects, as needed.

    Qualifications

     

    • Minimum 1 – 2 years of design experience preferred
    • College degree or equivalent work experience in Graphic Design, Typography, and/or Illustration preferred
    • Strong Mac skills and design skills using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
    • Book cover design experience a +
    • Basic understanding of production process, color correction, and holding schedules a +
    • Pre-press experience a +
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish a +
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to set priorities under pressure
    • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
