    HarperCollins Children’s Books is looking for a summer intern who loves books, design, and all things social. If you are fluent in social media and know how to speak the visual language of users, no matter what platform, and are passionate about taking social design to the next level, this is the design internship for you!

     

    The HarperCollins Summer Internship Program is a paid 10 week program which runs from June 10 through August 15.  All interns work Monday through Thursday, for a total of 28 hours per week.  As a HarperCollins intern, you will learn about the entire publishing process - following one book from beginning to end while  hearing from the people who worked on it in our weekly lunch and learn series (lunch is provided!). You will work on a publishing project throughout the summer with your fellow interns and have the opportunity to present your findings to senior staff.  There are plenty of opportunities to network including an icebreaker bowling trip, and the end of the program culminates with a presentation called “How to Get a Job in Publishing” – offering advice on your resume, cover letter, interview, and networking. 

    Responsibilities

    • Creating a library of static and motion content to support our picture book, middle grade, and teen books
    • Reframing various creative for Epic Reads & HarperKids social media channels
    • Collaborating on new creative concepts for Instagram Story and social advertising placements
    • Innovating alongside designers to come up with new design ideas and solutions
    • Presenting your design ideas and concepts to the marketing team internally
    • Sharing developments in the social space to help us deliver innovative & competitive content
    • Participating in brainstorms and ideation sessions
    • Engaging with the HarperCollins Children's internal teams including Art Directors, Social Strategists, Community Managers, Analysts, and audience engagement specialists

    Qualifications

    • Must be a rising senior, grad student, or graduate
    • An understanding of photography, typography, design, and best practices in creating for social media platforms
    • Ideas for creative ways to highlight books through photo and video content
    • Strong knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
    • A knack for visual storytelling
    • Values the importance of good copy and strategy as part of effective design for social
    • Understanding of all major social platforms and why certain content performs best on each
    • Working knowledge of motion design language and principles
    • Ability to handle simultaneous design tasks
    • Passionate about books and loves a good meme
