    We are seeking an Associate Director to join our dynamic publicity department.  In this role you will be responsible for the execution of major publicity campaigns for books published by HarperCollins Children’s Books as well as advising and directing other members of the department on their campaigns.   

    Responsibilities

    • Works with the Publicity Director to help oversee the publicity team.
    • Coordinates all publicity activities on assigned titles (across early childhood, middle grade and young adult) from the development of strategic angles and pitches; schedules media mailings; executes multi-city author tours including bookstore, school, and festival/con appearances.
    • Schedules interviews with broadcast, print and online media.
    • Writes press releases and pitch letters, and other promotional materials relating to a book’s campaign.
    • Arranges special events, conferences, media lunches, etc. when necessary.
    • Develops and maintains close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio/podcast, print, online, trades, etc.).
    • Develops and strengthens bookseller contacts and relationships within the industry.
    • Ensures strong relationships with existing authors and builds relationships with potential future authors.
    • Manages a small team within the publicity department.
    • Liaises with key departments like marketing, sales, and editorial to ensure a cohesive message is being made throughout marketing/publicity initiatives.
    • Works closely with marketing, sales, online marketing, and editorial; attends regular meetings with editorial groups.
    • Briefs authors on how to handle interviews; develops media contacts; accompanies authors on interviews.
    • Occasionally travels with select authors on tour to bookstores, schools, festivals and conferences.

    Qualifications

    • Significant prior work experience in publicity, with an emphasis placed on booking top-line media and author tours
    • A proven ability to generate creative news angles
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines with budgetary constraints and changing priorities (must be extremely flexible and versatile)
    • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
    • Extensive knowledge of the media and a familiarity with book reviewers, magazine editors, and social media influencers
    • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
    • College-level understanding and use of the English language
    • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential
    • A college degree (BA or equivalent)
