    The Sr. Manager, Public Relations, Bibles and CARR (Church, Academic, Reference, and Reflective) leads PR efforts for new books and Bibles, securing exceptional coverage across broadcast, print, online, and other digital media. Additional responsibilities include influencing the broader discussion within popular Christianity and academia, as well as executing strategic backlist campaigns. This is a key position that raises awareness among academicians, students, pastors, Christian leaders, and a broad array of Christians living out their faith. The Sr. Manager, Public Relations will work to ensure high visibility for our authors, partners, and content by networking and maintaining key media relationships.

    Responsibilities

    • Direct excellent public relations efforts and campaigns for Zondervan and Thomas Nelson authors, brands, books, and Bibles
    • Pitch and book media coverage for author/titles to print, radio, online, podcasts and TV outlets.
    • Proactively monitor and shape online conversations and ensure that our brands, products, and initiatives are central
    • Research, negotiate with, and manage outside PR agencies and freelancers
    • Communicate to the media regarding new product releases, best-selling backlist products, and titles that speak to news-breaking events and trends
    • Write press releases and oversee press kit creation, while watching media coverage for timely hooks relevant to the product
    • Actively develop and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, and local.
    • Create mutually beneficial relationships with product marketing directors, sales team leaders, media contacts, authors, bloggers, among others
    • Direct public relations activities at industry trade shows (e.g., ICRS, BEA) and key academic/pastoral conferences (e.g. AAR/SBL)
    • Participate in weekly marketing and sales meetings to ensure alignment between PR, Marketing, and Sales on new releases and initiatives
    • Present PR strategy to authors as part of the marketing plan creation; present plans at sales conferences (3x a year) and other company meetings
    • Measure, analyze and report on media coverage as appropriate
    • Track media activities and clippings and update sales force, marketing colleagues, authors, agents, and internal personnel on hits and activities
    • In collaboration with VP, Marketing, manage overall publicity budget
    • Coordinate media training for authors as appropriate. Draft questions and suggested talking points for use in author interviews
    • Work with other HCCP publicists to coordinate efforts such as media trips to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, media holiday gifts, media catalog mailings, publicity staff retreats, etc.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge:

    • Working knowledge of crafting and delivering professional media pitches to media outlets
    • Experience working with national media and established contacts
    • Knowledge of Christian authors and professional/academic markets (preferred)

    Work Experience:

    • 5-7 years of direct or transferrable work experience in marketing, publicity, and/or corporate communications
    • Experience in managing projects and budgets with diverse internal and external resource
    • Proven media relations record with established relationships,
    • Experience in all types of media—broadcast, print, online, social

     

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism preferred

     

    Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the Christian publishing industry preferred
