  • Overview



    We are seeking an Associate Director OR Director of Publicity to work with our General Books division. In this role you will be responsible for the execution of 4-7 publicity campaigns per season for books published by the William Morrow and Dey Street Books imprints, as well as advising and directing other members of the department on fiction campaigns.  


    • Works with Group Director to help oversee the fiction line.
    • Coordinates all publicity activities on assigned titles from the development of proper angles and pitches; schedules media mailings; executes events and public appearances; coordinates publicity updates for division and sales force.
    • Creates press releases, pitch letters, promotional materials.
    • Arranges special events, conferences, media lunches, etc. when necessary.
    • Develops and maintains close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio/podcast, print, online, trades, etc.).
    • Develops and strengthens bookseller contacts and relationships with the marketplace/industry.
    • Ensures strong relationships with existing authors and builds relationships with potential future authors.
    • Manages and educates a small team within the publicity department.
    • Liaises with key departments like marketing, sales, and editorial to ensure a cohesive message is being made throughout marketing/publicity initiatives.
    • Briefs authors on how to handle interviews; develops media contacts; accompanies authors on interviews.


    • At least 5 years of hands-on book publicity experience - minimum 7 years of experience to be considered at Director level - with increasing levels of responsibility for campaign and people management
    • Extensive media contacts with strong relationships within the marketplace
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines with budgetary constraints and changing priorities (must be extremely flexible and versatile)
    • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
    • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential as is an ability to speak and think clearly and creatively and generate new ideas on a regular basis
