    HarperCollins Publishers is seeking an Assistant Editor for the General Books Group. In this role you will report to an Editorial Director and a Senior Editor of Amistad acquiring multicultural narrative nonfiction and literary fiction.

    Responsibilities

    • Reads and evaluates manuscript submissions provides feedback and readers reports.
    • Drafts rejection letters and acquisitions memos.
    • Conducts sales research, runs P&Ls; drafts contract requests and check requests for all projects.
    • Helps in monitoring book production schedule for both editors’ titles.
    • Reviews layouts at various stages of book development.
    • Drafts jacket copy and galley copy.
    • Creates title information sheets and reviews marketing material.
    • Reads behind managers and provides detailed feedback on titles.
    • Supports all information flow and communication with authors, agents, and inter-departmental team members.
    • Maintains and updates files and records.
    • Prepares expense reports and processes invoices.

    Qualifications

    • 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in publishing or a related field
    • Must have a passion for books and keen interest in learning about the marketplace
    • Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task; must be highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Must be highly creative; writing experience preferred
    • Must communicate ideas and opinions clearly and effectively, both in person and in writing
    • Must be efficient and self-motivated
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
