    Attention pop culture junkies!  The Creative Development Team at HarperCollins is currently seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative, editorial and social media/marketing support to the department.  The Creative Development department tracks what is hot in the media – tv, movies, celebrities, music, sports, online, current events, etc. – and then develops proposals to bring to potential authors.  This department acquires for all HarperCollins imprints, and includes the video studio which makes hundreds of marketing videos and runs a daily Facebook Live program.  If you love books, and videos and are into the biggest trends before they are even trends – this may be the perfect job for you.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides administrative and editorial support to the SVP and Director of Creative Development and assists the video/live team when needed. Opens and sorts mail; makes travel arrangements and appointments; maintains and updates files and records; answers telephones and takes messages as needed.
    • Monitors the manufacturing schedule, maintains communication with authors and agents for their books, videos and live programming. 
    • Reads, edits, and evaluates manuscripts, reviews publicity, promotion, copyediting and design process and illustrations procurement.
    • Returns rejected manuscripts; assists in preparing copyrights and permissions information and obtains information from various sources.
    • Writes jacket copy, flap copy, sales notes, plan cards and other materials.
    • Edits manuscripts under supervision.
    • Works with team to brainstorm ideas, creates proposals to bring to potential authors, identifies new ideas found online or in all media and tracks what is hot in the zeitgeist.
    • Helps to brainstorm, schedule, make graphics and create promotional ideas for the evolving Facebook Live program.

    Qualifications

    • 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
    • Prior internship experience in editorial required
    • Ability to multitask, juggle priorities and manage time effectively in a very fast-paced environment
    • Experience with Social Media platforms required
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Exceptional writing skills
    • Ability to follow through on projects
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Must have a strong appreciation for pop culture (celebrity, reality tv, music experts, current events, sports, etc.)
