    HarperCollins has an industry-leading consumer insight program that helps us to drive marketplace success for our authors. Our primary tool for gathering consumer insights is a group of 5 proprietary consumer insight communities, consisting of highly engaged readers in the US and UK. These communities help us generate insights to drive key aspects of our relationship with authors, from acquisition to concept testing and marketing/sales planning.


    We currently have an exciting opportunity within this team to help drive the project forward by generating consumer insight and inspiring its use in our US General Books and US Children's businesses, as well as participating in global research activities across our international divisions.


    • Quickly mastering the existing consumer insight program and how it is being used around the business.
    • Managing and utilizing the consumer insight panels relevant to the US businesses – the Epic Reads Insiders (YA) and Bookperk PageTurners (General Books); shared responsibility for our romance panel, the Romance Insiders; this includes survey programming and all aspects of data analysis and reporting.
    • Being an active member of the HarperCollins global insight team; sharing knowledge and best practices and participating in occasional global or corporate research activities
    • Proactively initiating, designing, and executing new quantitative and qualitative research projects based on business needs.
    • Seeking out and utilizing third party and syndicated research as a complement to primary research.
    • Fielding ad hoc research requests.
    • Presenting the results to teams internally and to authors and their agents as needed.
    • Being an advocate for the insights program and inspiring colleagues around the business to use research.


    • 3+ years of consumer insight experience at a top research company or research-driven organization
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field
    • Strong background in qualitative and quantitative research, with expertise in statistical analysis.
    • Ideally, experience in managing proprietary insight communities; experience in programming studies using online survey programming tools
    • Broad-based knowledge of syndicated research
    • A passion for interpreting quantitative data and creating actionable insights that are applied in business decisions
    • Strong communication and presentation skills – in particular an ability to effectively relay consumer insights through story-telling
    • Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively with all levels of management
    • Expert-level experience with PowerPoint and Excel
    • No prior knowledge of book publishing is required but is a strong plus
