  • Overview



    The Assistant Publicist provides administrative and publicity support for the Harper and Harper Wave imprints. This position supports one person who works on a variety of titles with an emphasis on health, wellness, lifestyle, and memoir. 


    • Provides administrative and publicity support to a Director.
    • Assists with writing press releases, pitch letters and other promotional materials to support publicity campaigns.
    • Generates custom media contact lists for galleys and finished books he/she is assigned.
    • Coordinates publicity mailings from warehouse/fulfillment center for all books and galleys.
    • Handle all review copy requests.
    • Works with bookstores to arrange author events/signings.
    • Organizes author schedules; books travel for touring authors.
    • Shares department assistant duties such as mail sorting, answering phones, and sending book requests.
    • Handles under minimal supervision paperback campaigns for Harper Wave titles: pulls additional media list, does targeted outreach/pitching to press, works directly with author.


    • 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
    • Prior internship experience in publishing or publicity preferred
    • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced/high pressure environment
    • Ability to work independently
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Doc, familiarity with leading social media platforms
    • Able to travel to author events in NYC
    • Poised, able to handle sensitive information, liaise with high-profile talent and executives
