  • Overview

    HarperCollins Publishers is currently seeking a Senior Director of Information Technology for its Christian Publishing Division. HarperCollins Christian Publishing (“HCCP”) is based in Nashville, TN with business operations in Grand Rapids, MI, Spokane, WA and Mexico City, MX. This position will be based in Nashville, TN.

    The Senior Director of Information Technology will support the management team in achieving business goals and strategies through the delivery and use of business technologies. This position reports to HarperCollins VP of Technology for North America (based in New York) for all matters related to technology strategy and operations with a strong dotted line to HCCP’s President and CEO (based in Nashville).


    • Serve as a member of HCCP’s Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”) with responsibility to support and advise both the CEO and the CFO in all matters related to the technology needs of the company.
    • Communicates and works in close partnership with the other ELT members to insure technology is supportive of all aspects of current and future operations of the business.
    • Serves as a liaison with the HarperCollins global IT departments.
    • Actively support the adoption of core systems and technologies within HCCP (global strategy and architecture are established by corporate IT).
    • Formulate and implement independent strategies, plans and solutions when HCCP’s technology needs differ from the global strategy.
    • Ensure that the strategies and plans of HCCP’s direct to consumer operations (operating companies dedicated to content delivery and eCommerce to consumers) fit within the goals of the company. Also, responsible for maintaining appropriate alignment with security policies and technology standards.
    • Ensure that core backend systems are being maintained for the direct to consumer operations.
    • Manage a local team of IT professionals who are responsible for supporting all local applications, systems, and reporting needs. These teams have a heavy operational focus to support the business.


    • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of enterprise management experience across multiple disciplines and technologies with increasing levels of management and leadership experience.
    • A strong preference for experience directly supporting a major business unit within a large corporate environment.
    • Demonstrated success in achieving results by collaborating, influencing and partnering with senior level management.
    • The ability to assist management in the evaluation of business acquisitions and the associated onboarding of those businesses.
    • Experience in analyzing business operations with the goals of improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and/or increasing quality.
    • Experience developing and managing a budget including preparing for capital and operational needs of the business.
    • Demonstrated success in collecting and prioritizing business requests directly from users and then coordinating with delivery teams for successful implementation.
    • Proven delivery of enterprise solutions (process and technology).
    • Experience supporting and incorporating digital strategies (including mobile applications and social media) and related operational requirements into business and technology strategies.

    • Experience with internal productivity tools including ERP, CRM, inventory planning, sales planning, item master management, and digital asset management

    • Understanding of the key security based need and considerations for an organization with extensive digital footprint and eCommerce operations

    • Strong technical competency around various software development life-cycle approaches, including agile and waterfall.

    • Overnight travel required.

    • Ability to work a full, professional schedule required.
