  • Overview



    We are currently seeking an Assistant Editor to provide administrative and editorial support to an Editorial Director and an Executive Editor within the HarperWave and Harper Imprints.


    • Performs, under minimal supervision, administrative and editorial duties including correspondence with authors and agents, setting up appointments, and managing supervisors’ calendars.
    • Logs, tracks, and reads submissions and assists in returning rejected manuscripts.
    • Drafts contract requests, p&ls, and researches competitive titles.
    • Monitors production schedules for supervisors’ books, maintains communication between production, design and managing editorial to keep books on schedule.
    • Acts as a liaison with publicity, marketing, legal, and finance departments.
    • Drafts jacket copy, flap copy, catalog copy, fact sheets, and other materials as needed.
    • Prepares manuscripts for transmittal (including creating art logs for 4-color books) inputs text corrections, transcribes edits, proofreads passes.


    • 4 year college degree
    • Minimum of one year relevant experience
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Exceptional writing skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Must have a strong appreciation for health & wellness, food, sports, pop culture and current affairs
