Telesales Representative

Are you someone with a passion for books and reading?   Do you have phone sales or other customer phone contact experience?   Then we are looking for you to be our next Telesales Representative at HarperCollins Publishers. 


Candidate will be responsible for calling on an assigned list of customers, both retail and wholesale located in the US, in a broadly based territory to sell HarperCollins products. Contact will be maintained on a regular and as-needed basis to provide the best possible sales coverage for the whole range of products the company produces as well as the clients for whom we agree to sell.  Organizational skills are critical as rep will be responsible for setting a calling schedule, selling front and backlist, and keeping customers informed of breaking title information.  Rep will also assist in cooperative advertising and setting up author appearances.


The rep will provide a bi-weekly overview of selling activity; be aggressive in positioning our products to support national and local advertising and promotion; grow the sales territory through new store contacts and evaluation of the unassigned account base. The rep needs to be vocal at sales conferences and departmental meetings.


Team spirit and a willingness to take on new tasks in support of the on going sales department goals and programs, as well as other programs of the publishing house, is essential. Travel is mandatory to attend national sales meeting(s) & regional book shows. Proficient use of a PC including is required in this position


  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be articulate, poised and enthusiastic with strong organizational skills to manage a multi-task work environment; have a pleasant speaking voice and phone manner; be a self-starter with a track record of independent work experience and the ability to achieve aggressive goals; be able to handle rejection and continue on to the next task or call. 
  • The ideal candidate will have previous phone sales or other customer phone contact experience. Working knowledge of Windows, M/S Word, Excel and Outlook or other email system is necessary.


Supervision/Out of Department Contact:  The position is managed on site by the Telesales Supervisor but also has regular contact with the management teams of both the Trade Sales Group and the Customer Service Department.  Other house contacts include the Credit Dept., and the Marketing and Publicity depts. of the Publishing Divisions.
