In an environment that is primarily virtualized Windows Servers, the Computer Operator is responsible for ensuring the timely and successful processing of all batch and online tasks on their shift in accordance with pre-established work schedules. Ensure all printing is of high quality and clearly legible. Monitor overall IT infrastructure health and escalate appropriately.


  • Enter appropriate parameters and submit test and production jobs as required to meet processing schedules
  • Monitor jobs for successful execution using automated scheduler packages and job logs
  • Operate Xerox laser printers and other print output devices.
  • Monitor data center consumables and retrieve as needed.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and escalate processing, equipment, and environmental problems with support and vendor personnel.
  • Keep management informed of operational status of all data center equipment and systems.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and distribution of the daily Enterprise Operations Status Report, including detailed data center trouble reports.
  • Prepare backup tapes and documents for offsite storage and monitor offline media usage through tape libraries.
  • Ability to lift boxes of paper and load into printers.
  • Available for overtime and shift rotation to provide support for vacations, illness, and training as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring a clean, uncluttered, safe, and professional work environment in the data center.
  • Accept off-shift calls in an emergency.
  • Available for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift work as needed. Weekends and holidays are normal work days.
  • Regular work shift is 8 AM to 4 PM, Thursday thru Monday.

  • Reports to the Supervisor of Computer Operations
  • Will work with all levels of the IT department and business unit personnel.
  • Notify IT and Vendor personnel for application, technical, and equipment repair actions


  • 3+ years of data processing experience with emphasis on Computer Operations.
  • Fundamental understanding of Job Control Language (e.g. DEC DCL / AS/400 CL).

  • General understanding of network principles and appliances, Windows OS and platforms, MS Office products, as well as AS400 and DEC Alpha hardware and ancillary devices.

  • Associate degree in computer science or similar discipline preferred

Technology Skills:


  • Demonstrable knowledge of various computer equipment and peripheral devices, including DEC Alphas, AS/400, application, SQL, file and print servers.
  • Understanding of data processing job flows and file and data input/output procedures
  • Literacy with PC workstations, MS Windows and Office products.
  • Experience with Tidal Job Scheduler and SolarWinds monitoring a plus
