Harlequin Teen is seeking a highly-motivated and creative Publicity Manager to lead its publicity efforts for their young adult authors.. The ideal candidate should possess a successful track record in publicizing young adult fiction. The Publicity Manager will develop and implement the overall publicity strategy which encompasses media relations, event planning, author relations, newsworthy press releases, and related materials for 6-8 titles per season. The Publicity Manager must be comfortable pitching national and local media for print, TV, radio, and online. This position will report directly to the Director of Publicity.


  • Responsible for implementing original and compelling publicity plans for lead titles each season through media campaigns, industry events, and author tours.
  • Create press releases, pitch letters and media lists with a goal of securing national and regional coverage in print, broadcast, and online outlets.
  • Orchestrate author tours, pre-publication tours, media lunches, industry events, and local author appearances.
  • Communicates with editorial and sales departments as part of a cohesive publicity effort.
  • Strengthen and develop national media, regional media and bookstore contacts.
  • Foster strong interpersonal relationships with Harlequin Teen authors.
  • Travel selectively for trade conferences, pre-and-post publication events.
  • Present campaign plans and results in meetings with senior staff and at sales conferences.


  • A. or B.S. in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field
  • 5+ years working in a professional public relations or media environment, preferably in children’s publishing
  • Should have a passion for books, particularly children’s literature, and knowledge of the bookselling & publishing industry
  • Established relationships with media contacts who cover books and book publishing
  • Effective communication skills (oral & written)
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in collaborative team environments
  • Self-motivated, persistent, goal-oriented individual
  • Effective organizational and project management skills
