HarperCollins Publishers is currently seeking an Application Developer to join our Systems team. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Systems Development, the Application Developer will be responsible for creating technical specifications from business requirements, and generating reusable web/database code components using C#, Microsoft Development Tools, MVC, Web Services, JavaScript and SQL. The Application Developer will manage multiple concurrent priorities ranging from new software development projects to maintenance and support of existing applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, as well as a full understanding of common coding standards, configuration management, and full life cycle systems development. 


  • Design, maintain, and support all tiers of enterprise application systems/web applications
  • Provide technical consultation and development support for existing and new custom applications
  • Prepare technical specifications, design documentation, code walk-throughs, test plans, and documentation of completed code
  • Gain knowledge of business processes, standards and terminology pertaining to the publishing industry
  • Collaborate effectively with programmers, IT staff, and Business Directors on development projects; Help define requirements and explain the capabilities and limitations of various systems



•      Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent level of experience

•      5+ years of web application development experience using Microsoft Development Tools and MVC, C#, SQL Server

·         5+ years of experience in database programming using Microsoft SQL Server and Transact SQL

•      Strong skills in Ajax, html, CSS, JavaScript

•      3+ years of experience programming in JSON and RESTful services.

•      In depth understanding of MVC architecture and different implementation approaches (Razor pages, JavaScript frameworks/libraries, etc.).

•      Strong understanding of UI design/implementation

•      Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex technical information to a wide range of audiences including stake holders, business representatives and senior management

•      Strong multi-tasking skills

•      Ability to work independently or with other technical and non-technical staff
