Job Title: Publicist Canada
Department: Publicity
Reporting To: Director, Publicity

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Publicity, the successful candidate will manage all aspects of publicity campaigns for adult books across all lists, including Canadian and international books.

Responsibilities

Major Accountabilities:


o Develop and maintain relationships with broadcast, print and online media to secure reviews and features
o Develop and maintain relationships with festival directors and booksellers
o Create press materials including press releases, pitch letters, interview topics/questions
o Secure reviews, interviews and other coverage in print, broadcast and online
o Pitch events with festivals and established event series
o Plan and execute multi-city tours in Canada
o Manage budgets for individual budgets
o Liaise with the marketing and sales departments on book campaigns
o Coordinate media mailings
o Cultivate author relationships

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:


o Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience in publicity/public relations
o Post-secondary education in a related field. Publishing Program Certificate would be an asset
o Good standing relationship with Canadian media and booksellers
o Knowledge of Canadian publishing industry
o Attention to detail
o Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
o Creativity, enthusiasm, and a love of books
o Able to multi-task, determine priorities, and remain cool under pressure
o Must have excellent phone and computer skills
o Strong written and oral communication skills
o Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed
o Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through
o Drives change and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriate
o A valid driver’s license would be an asset
