Business Manager – Global Information Technology division

US-NJ-Monmouth Junction


HarperCollins Publishers is currently seeking a Business Manager to handle all financial responsibilities for the Global Information Technology division.   This position will be based in our office in Monmouth Junction (Princeton), NJ.


  • Plans, develops and manages the annual budgeting/forecasting analysis and day-to-day responsibilities for operating and capital expenses (Depreciation, Software/Hardware Capitalization, Infrastructure, etc.)
  • Performs monthly financial close: intercompany cost allocations, analyzes results, including variance reconciliation, report generation and journal entries.
  • Publishes executive-grade monthly financial summary highlighting risks and opportunities impacting bottom lines. Provides analytical reports as necessary.
  • Develops, reports, and analyzes key metrics that drive actionable goals to ensure we are running a lean business.
  • Works on special projects on an ad hoc basis.  
  • Gathers business unit- level requirements for all core processes in collaboration with various finance functions and global business units.
  • Collaborates across global divisions to collect relevant data, builds processes, and develops models to implement total cost of ownership and consumption based allocations to drive transparency and decision making.
  • Assists, as necessary, with vendor management including setting up new vendors, issuing or approving purchase orders and facilitating payments.
  • Manages service providers
  • Manages software license administration which includes:
    • Track all software licenses
    • Develop familiarity with licensing options and metrics
    • Manage license acquisition and maintenance renewals
    • Negotiation of terms in conjunction with heads of department
  • Manages a staff of two


  • Infrastructure Maintenance Renewals
    • Track all contracts
    • Manage renewals including, equipment covered and support terms
    • Negotiation of Terms


  • Minimum five years’ experience with high-level accounting functions including planning, forecasting, analytics and management reporting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, Master’s degree or CPA preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance concepts and principals in conjunction with excellent verbal, analytical, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to deliver value added analyses
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Strong competency with the Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Consistent track record of being able to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones and geographies
  • Working knowledge of and ability to verify accuracy of statistical information
  • JDE Financials and Hyperion Planning are a plus
  • Ability to travel via car to Montage, PA for the first 3 months then some travel to other office locations.
