HarperCollins is currently seeking a Jr. Financial Analyst OR Financial Analyst for the children's division finance department. Through analysis and reporting, this team provides support to all departments in the children’s division, enabling them to make well informed business decisions. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who seeks challenges, takes initiative, and is strongly motivated to continuously learn and make valuable contributions to a finance team within a well-established company. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly financial closings, including the completion of detailed analysis of sales, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses.
  • Develop and maintain business models to support internal decision making processes.
  • Serve as first point of financial contact for employees, especially entry-level and mid-level editorial and marketing employees, to answer questions, provide explanations, and investigate problems as needed.
  • Maintain Excel P&L template used by editors to generate title P&Ls for acquisition, assist editorial staff in preparing and understanding P&Ls, and review P&Ls before acquisitions meetings.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Senior Director and VP.

Qualifications

  • College degree in business administration, finance, economics, accounting, or computer science required; 2 or more relevant years of experience required for Financial Analyst
  • Ability to think critically and analytically
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Detail oriented
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong PC Skills: Excel a MUST; knowledge of Access a plus
  • Oracle/Hyperion EPM experience a plus
  • Interest in publishing or media a plus
