Publicity Manager (Bilingual)



 HarperCollins Spanish Global Publishing division is looking for a Publicity Manager with expertise in the US Hispanic and Latin America market to handle publicity for all its Spanish imprints.  We need someone who is excited to spearhead publicity campaigns, autonomously with passion and creativity that can work alongside our social and digital marketing teams. The Publicity Manager will play a key role in strategizing, executing and managing publicity campaigns for our global publishing programs. This will involve networking and maintaining key relationships as well as understanding how, when, and where to pitch a story.


The primary responsibilities of the Publicity Manager include but are not limited to: 


Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute individual, targeted publicity campaigns for key titles and set measurable goals for success.
  • Write press releases and pitch letters, and other promotional materials relating to a book’s campaign. Pitch author/titles to radio, online and TV. Organize and complete press mailings as required.
  • Communicate opportunities and challenges to publisher, marketing and editorial teams, and sales.
  • Work closely with sales to communicate media opportunities as well as collect input on media most advantageous to their accounts.
  • Speak into projects early in development to help determine potential for success based on author platform, likely media interest, and opportunities for exclusive content.
  • Actively develop and maintain media contacts, including both international and national, regional, local and online. Continuously research new outlets for possible coverage. Actively network with social media influencers, radio and television producers.
  • Identify news/opportunities into which our authors/books may be inserted and thus exposed to consumers via various media outlets and craft pitches appropriate for each outlet.
  • Become a resource for which producers, editors, writers, reporters depend for information, sources, books and authors on relevant topics.
  • Research, negotiate with, and manage outside publicity firms as needed for certain projects.
  • Schedule all logistics and attend author media tours; coordinate with authors book signings and book presentations as required.
  • Organize and coordinate press conferences and/or interviews with radios, magazines, newspapers, websites, and television for promotional book campaigns. Do on air interviews as needed whenever the author is unavailable.
  • Leverage social media to create awareness and buzz around book releases, both with major traditional media outlets and bloggers.
  • Manage the publicity budget and oversee/coordinate the activities of other personnel involved in each project.
  • Work alongside our global offices, distributors and partners in other countries to maximize opportunities for promotion and publicity for authors and books.
  • Maintain the filing of press clippings, and complete other administrative tasks as assigned.


Desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:


Knowledge: Solid relationships with key media in the US and Latin America already intact. He/she must be fluent in social media and marketing to partner effectively with all our internal teams.


Work Experience: 5+ years working in public relations field 


Education: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Communications, Journalism, or English


Industry Knowledge: Book publishing publicity experience preferred.
